Summer vacation is a time to relax, rejuvenate, and create cherished memories with friends and family. And with careful planning, you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a nice getaway!
Follow these 5 tips to save money on your summer vacation.
- Research, research, research.
Before booking flights or accommodations compare prices on different websites, different travel dates, and even different travel destinations.
Traveling a week later or earlier may save quite a bit of cash. Booking your flight with a hotel together may save cash, too. Don’t forget to compare the prices of lodging. You may save money by staying at a less expensive hotel, or even by renting an Airbnb vacation rental.
- Save on food.
The costs of eating out at every meal can quickly add up, especially if you’re traveling with your kids. If you’re traveling with kids or a large group, consider saving money by renting lodging with a kitchen, or even a house through Airbnb.com. Having a kitchen will help you avoid the high expense of eating out at every meal!
- Discounts, coupons, and Groupons.
Before booking activities, look for discounts for booking in advance, or other online coupons or Groupon deals. Don’t forget to ask if you get a discount as an AAA or AARP member!
- Consider making it a road trip.
Flying is expensive. Consider what interesting destinations are nearby that you can get to by car. Road trips save on the cost of airfare, eliminate the need to rent a car, and allow you to explore multiple locations along your journey!
- Take a day trip.
Overnight trips can be fun, but they can also be expensive and stressful. Are there nearby one-day getaways for you to enjoy with friends or with your kids? A day trip to the beach, an amusement or water park, or other tourist attractions in your own city that you’ve never visited can be the ticket to some affordable summer fun!
