Random Acts of Kindness: December Edition

|

Hello again dear reader!

Welcome to our December Edition of Random Acts of Kindness!

Thank you for following our blog. We share information here about getting out of debt, the benefits of bankruptcy, and tips on savvy financial management, saving more and spending less. Certainly, these are critical topics for our financial futures, but we also like to share stories on random acts of kindness. Just some feel-good news to remind us of the good in the world!

‘Tis the Season!

Around the holidays people often get into the spirit of giving and being kind to one another. It’s a beautiful display of the human spirit. There is even something called “RAK Friday.” This is Random Acts of Kindness Friday instead of Black Friday.

The nonprofit organization The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (“RAK”) created a Facebook fan page dedicated to collecting stories of kindness from RAK Friday 2017. Here are just a few inspirational random acts of kindness that people carried out the day after Thanksgiving.

  • We handed out a bouquet of flowers to the worker in the rental office – and then left flowers anonymously for neighbors.
  • Bought gas for a stranger.
  • Gave out over 400 brownies, cookie bars, pies, and inspirational quotes.
  • Gave out free hugs to strangers.
  • Sent thoughtful thank you cards to employees of a local high school.
  • Paid for Starbuck’s for the car behind us.
  • Bought a mattress pad for someone who hadn’t asked but had a need for one.
  • Made a point of having conversations with people throughout the day about the concept of RAK Friday.

You can read more stories about RAK Friday 2017 here.

Mother-Daughter Duo Spread Joy

Tamara, a woman who celebrates RAK Friday every year with her daughter and chronicles the adventure, dashed through JC Penny to fetch a shopping cart for an elderly woman trying to balance using her cane with carrying shopping items. This was after she organized some of the store’s disarray in the shoe and junior departments.

Afterwards, Tamara loaded the candy kiosk machines with quarters. She says it’s “a sweet treat to brighten a child’s day!” And later that day the mother-daughter duo added origami ornaments with kind messages inscribed to a giant Christmas tree to remind others “You Matter.”

Perhaps you would like to partake in RAK Friday next year! In the meantime, we can all pass forward random acts of kindness to our friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers.

Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”

– Scott Adams
