Thank you for following our blog. We share information here about getting out of debt, the benefits of bankruptcy, and tips on savvy financial management, saving more and spending less. Certainly, these are critical topics for our financial futures, but we also like to share stories on random acts of kindness. Just some feel-good news to remind us of the good in the world!
Last month an anonymous woman picked up the tab for 25 firefighters at a Denny’s restaurant in San Bernardino County, California. More than 100 crew members from several fire departments worked tirelessly for more than five hours to bring a 70-acre wildfire under control. The firefighters stopped the forward movement of the blaze and contained the fire 100%, all the while working in 108-degree heat.
The generous woman paid the bill in secret, and the firefighters were not aware until they went to settle the check. The tab for the firefighters then eating at Denny’s totaled $355.22, plus the unidentified woman left a $50 tip and a $100 gift card to cover desert for future crew members who were expected to pass through the diner later.
What a beautiful way to show appreciation for those brave men and women battling the blazing wildfire!
The Colton Fire Department shared details of the woman’s random act of kindness on Facebook. The City of Colton Fire’s Facebook post reads:
After all of the firefighters finished fighting the La Cadena Fire in La Loma Hills this evening, they were sent to Denny’s for dinner. While eating, an anonymous woman told the Denny’s staff that she wanted to buy all of the firefighter’s meals; there were about 25 firefighters in the restaurant at that time. This woman paid for the meal of all of the firefighters at Denny’s at that time, plus tip for a total of $405; she also paid $100 for dessert for all of the crews.
On behalf of all of the firefighters that worked on the La Cadena Fire from San Bernardino County Fire, Cal Fire, Redlands, Colton, Loma Linda, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, San Manuel, Montclair, Apple Valley, Chino Valley, Upland, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation, and Colton PD, we thank you for your generous show of support.
We are all honored to serve the citizens of our communities.
Hundreds of people commenting on the Facebook post praised her random act of kindness. One commenter called it an “awesome gesture,” and another said, “Kindness, generosity, and truly great people do exist.” Our favorite comment reads: “If you’ve read this post, do everyone a favor and pay it forward.”
The City of Colton Fire’s post went viral! It has been shared over 1,200 times and garnered 8,900 reactions and over 400 comments. This anonymous woman’s thoughtful deed was truly a random act of kindness.
